The VideoRay ROV can be operated by one person. However, depending on your mission more may be required. Ideally, you have two people; one who is the pilot and the other who acts as the tether handler. While adding accessories like sonar or positioning systems may not require additional crew members, a complex mission or operating area containing many hazards will have a greater chance of success with a few more people to concentrate on the different pieces of information. For example, when operating at extreme depths around snag hazards and limited visibility, such as a shipwreck, while using both the VideoRay, a positioning system, and a sonar system it is much better when there is a crew member focused on the sonar information in addition to the pilot focused on the video information.
