You do not have to be able to see the ROV launch location. However, if you can’t it is important that you have clear lines of communication with your tether handler - they can hear you and you can hear them. It is also important that you have done your own reconnaissance and gotten your own visual of the launch location prior to sitting down at the controls box so you have an idea of any hazards or features to avoid when the ROV is lowered into the water. For example, it is better to know that you are launching directly up current of a set of pilings before the ROV is launched rather than discovering the pilings when you hit the first one. In that case, by checking it out before launching, you can determine a compass course that takes you up current so as soon as the ROV hits the water, you are able to fly it up current and away from the pilings right away.
